Burglary suspect apprehended

Multiple police agencies worked together today to apprehend a man suspected of the attempted burglary of a taxi cab driver.

Avon Assistant Police Chief Bill Weems said that shortly before 2:30 p.m. today, authorities were called to the Avon Walmart store on a report of the attempted burglary.

Once authorities arrived, he said the suspect ran across U.S. 36 and into the Avon Village Trailer Park where he attempted to hide under a mobile home.

Weems said the man was eventually subdued after a police K-9 bit him. Officers confiscated the man’s handgun and now have him in custody.

The local schools were notified and they went on soft lockdown while the search was continuing.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
