Schmidts celebrate 50 years

Bob and Karlene Schmidt of Avon celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary May 30. They were married in Manhattan, Kan., in 1959.

Mr. Schmidt graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1954 and spent three years in the U.S. Army. He worked as a zone manager for the Kroger Company, served as vice president of meat operations for Allied Grocery, director of meat operations for Wetterau Company, and worked for the Dick Taylor Brokerage Company.

Mrs. Schmidt graduated from Manhattan High School in 1959. After raising their children, she has worked the past 20 years as a medical transcriptionist for Midwest Neurology.

They have five sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Mary Schmidt of Avon, Thor and Diana Schmidt of Avon, Dane and Kim Schmidt of Economy, Kyle and Tammy Schmidt of Okinawa, and Raud and Kandy Schmidt of Avon. They also have seven grandchildren: Matthew and wife Ashley, William, Kristen, Nichole, Trevor, Drew, and Kassey.
